"I was in the hospital for some minor ailment. We had an argument. He and the children had come to visit me and brought me the first fur coat I ever owned. During the entire visit I spoke to the children, but I didn't speak to Hank. On his way home he told our housekeeper, Audrey Ragland, 'She's got the coldest heart I've seen.' That same night he wrote this song. Among the 100 songs Hank Williams wrote, this song was his favorite." --- Audrey Williams

Perry apparently recorded "Cold, Cold Heart" in August, 1951, on the same day as "Rollin' Stone" and "With All My Heart and Soul" and possibly with the Fontane Sisters. The song was introduced that year by Hank Williams on MGM but it turned out to be a #1 record and million-seller for Tony Bennett on Columbia Records. Interestingly, Bennett's recording was accompanied by Mitchell Ayres' Orchestra. This is the only song composed by Hank Williams known to have been recorded by Perry.
