- Notes:
~ The tune KREMSER is named after a
Viennese composer, Edward Kremser (1838-1914).
- He found
the melody and its anonymous patriotic text in a
collection of Dutch folk songs.
- He translated the text
into German and used the melody to fashion the hymn in
1877.
- Theodore Baker (1851-1934) worked from Kremser's
German text to create an English translation,
- which he
published in 1894.
