|"On a Saturday night
in September 1955, NBC unveiled "The Perry Como
Show." The success of the program was immediate,
with critics and public agreeing that the Como brand of
easy-going entertainment was a viewers delight. In
fact, toward the end of the shows first season, it
was not uncommon to hear the sixth evening of the week
referred to as Perry Como Night."
~ from the original 1959 album jacket notes
This is Perry's third RCA Camden release, originally issued in 1959, and named for the moving of his weekly television show from Saturday nights to Wednesday. Officially, the show was known as "The Perry Como Kraft Music Hall", so-named after his new sponsor Kraft Foods. The album was simply titled "Perry Como's Music Hall" for international releases. All tracks within this compilation were drawn from previously released recordings for inclusion within this RCA Camden budget series. Recorded in the 40s and early 50s with the Orchestras of Mitchell Ayres, Russ Case and Henri René, all recordings are monaural. This album was never re-released in an "electronically reprocessed" stereo version. Note: This compilation contains the original released 'take' of "I Wanna Go Home ( With You )" recorded with the Fontane Sisters on August 11, 1949. Subsequent releases within Japanese compilations and compact disc have included an alternate 'take' with slightly different lyrics and intro.
