Notes: ~ J.S. Pierpoint wrote "Jingle Bells" in 1857 as entertainment for a Boston Sunday School class.

Since then this perennial Christmas favourite has been recorded countless times. Perhaps the

biggest hit version came in 1943 when Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters' recording (Decca 23281)

sold over a million copies. The flip side of that disc was another favourite, "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town."

Two years earlier, Glenn Miller also had a hit with "Jingle Bells" (Bluebird 11353). One of the most unusual

recordings of the song came in 1955, when Don Charles, from Copenhagen, Denmark, spliced a tape of dogs

barking at various pitches to the tune of "Jingle Bells." The resultant recording (RCA 6344) eventually

sold a million copies.
