- Notes:
~ J.S. Pierpoint wrote
"Jingle Bells" in 1857 as entertainment for a
Boston Sunday School class.
- Since then this perennial
Christmas favourite has been recorded countless times.
Perhaps the
- biggest hit version came in 1943 when Bing
Crosby and the Andrews Sisters' recording (Decca 23281)
- sold over a million copies. The flip side of that disc
was another favourite, "Santa Claus Is Coming to
Town."
- Two years earlier, Glenn Miller also had a
hit with "Jingle Bells" (Bluebird 11353). One
of the most unusual
- recordings of the song came in 1955,
when Don Charles, from Copenhagen, Denmark, spliced a
tape of dogs
- barking at various pitches to the tune of
"Jingle Bells." The resultant recording (RCA
6344) eventually
- sold a million copies.
