The Christmas Song ( Merry Christmas To You )

Notes: ~ This Christmas classic is most often associated with Nat King Cole even though it was first introduced by it's composer Mel Tormé. Nat King Cole recorded it first with The King Cole Trio and then again with Nelson Riddle's Orchestra in 1954. Perry recorded the song in 1953 with Mitchell Ayres' Orchestra for a 10" LP recording titled "Around the Christmas Tree" LPM-3133 and a 45 Extended Play titled "Christmas Joy" 45-EPA-496. It was later included within the 1956 expanded 12" LP compilation "Perry Como Sings Merry Christmas Music" LPM-1243. He re-recorded the song in stereo on July 15, 1959, for the RCA Victor album "Seasons Greetings From Perry Como" LPM/LSP-2066 released that same year. Even though Perry's 1959 stereo recording is generally considered to be his definitive version, ironically it has been the 1953 version which has been more consistently available through the broader release of his "Merry Christmas Music" compilations. |
