Perry Como In Person - 1970

First record releases: ~ the theme "You Are Never Far Away" has been recorded several
times as a closing to Como albums and used many times during closing and program credits
for the Perry Como television shows and specials. It was recorded as a closing for Perry's first
full stereophonic album, "Saturday Night With Mr. C." released as LSO/LOP 1004 in 1958 and
as a closing for the 1961 album "Sing to Me Mr. C." released as LSP/LPM 2390 and it was
performed on both "live" albums recorded in 1970 and 1980. The original 1952 recording
should have been released in the 1968 RCA Camden compilation "You Are Never Far Away"
CAS-2201(e) but inadvertently the short theme from "Saturday Night With Mr. C." was used
instead and, adding insult to injury, in monaural or electronically reprocessed stereo only!
Unfortunately, this oversight was not corrected with the compact disc release either.

Notes: ~ This song has been the closing theme for Mr. Como's television show from almost
the time it was first recorded in 1952. Strangely, though, the full version recording was not
released by RCA Victor until it's inclusion in the BMG compact disc box set
"Yesterday & Today ~ A Celebration in Song" more than forty years later.
On at least one occasion, perhaps forgetting that he had recorded it, Mr. Como
has commented that he might one day record the full version, and so it was
with considerable surprise that the full version emerged in 1993.
