"In 1948
( RCA Victor ) introduced the 45 RPM record to compete
with the larger, more breakable, 78 RPM disc. RCA
Victor's first rock & roll record was a watered-down
version of Gene and Eunice's 1955 rhythm & blues hit
"Ko Ko Mo ( I Love You So )" ( Combo 64 ) by
crooner Perry Como ( RCA Victor 5994 ) which charted in
February 1955" ( from "Elvis:
His Life from A to Z" )
"Ko-Ko-Mo
( I Love You So )" was one of Perry's highest
charted singles, reaching position No. 2 in the United
States, and is generally acknowledged as having achieved
Gold Record status. Oddly, however, it has never been
included within his Gold Record compilations, nor was it
given the recognition it deserved as RCA Victor's first
Rock & Roll single release.
"Ko-Ko-Mo
( I Love You So )" was also recorded by The Crew
Cuts on the Mercury Records label.
